This week, we reviewed prepositions and jumped right into prepositional phrases. Students were able to practice these in a few different ways, and will be working more with them next week.
We ended the week by turning in unit 13 vocab pages. These were our last vocab pages of the school year - yay! Students will have a unit 13 vocab quiz next Friday (May 8th), which will be their LAST vocab quiz of the year!!
VOCAB QUIZZES/TESTS:
Pease help your students study for their bi-weekly quizzes! Their vocab words are their spelling words, as well as their vocabulary words, in which they need to know the definitions. They are responsible for spelling each word, and knowing the definitions enough to match them to the correct word. After the first few units, students will begin to have 3 review words on some of the quizzes to total 15 words on each quiz. These extra words will be written in their planners :-)
If at any time, you have questions about our Language classes, please feel free to contact me by email at sfisher@grovecitychristian.org.
This week, we finished up worksheets to identify different parts of speech within paragraphs. We were able to practice our different parts of speech with some MadLibs, too! They were given a study guide towards the end of the week to review the parts of speech for an upcoming Parts of Speech Test (5/12).
Students were given 15 minutes to complete half of their assigned Membean in class this week. Students will no longer be given class time on Tuesdays to work on Membean. This means that 15 minutes will need to be completed on their own time, and 15 minutes will be completed in class on Thursdays. This is to prepare them for Middle School, where all of their Membean minutes will need to be completed for homework.
Membean Explanation:
Membean is an online vocabulary program that is tailored to each individual student. As they learn more vocab words, they progress to higher levels, moving at a pace that suits their individual learning needs. They will use this program all the way through 12th grade.
Students have 30 minutes of Membean that they need to complete each week by Monday night at midnight.
I will begin the year giving them 15 minutes of class time, so they will be required to complete 15 of their minutes outside of class time to prepare them for middle school (following 6th grade, their assigned minutes will increase, and they are typically not given class time to complete these minutes). If a student is absent on a Membean day, or if we do not have school on a Membean day (typically Thursdays), students are responsible for completing these minutes on their own time to reach their required 30 minutes for the week.
The program recommends that students split up these 30 minutes throughout the week, completing them in at least two different days, to enhance the students' memory of vocabulary. Due to this recommendation, an extra 6 points is added to the student's grade for completing their vocabulary throughout at least two days each week, totaling 36/36 points for that week's Membean.
